An excellent 2021 barrel fermented Chenin Blanc

The grapes are harvested by hand and delivered in crates. After the grapes are destemmed, skin contact is given for 3 hours before the juice is extracted. Only free run juice is used and great care is taken that the juice is clear before fermentation starts, to ensure that the pure concentrated fruitiness of the dry land grapes is infused into the wine. For the Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc, fermentation takes place in 500L barrels with selected wine yeast. French Oak barrels are used to lend complexity to the wine, which has a good rest for 10 months in the barrels. Made in a rich and ripe, wooded style, together with the age-old tradition of Dry Land viticulture, it resulted in a very aromatic and richly textured wine, with characteristics typical to Chenin Blanc grown under these conditions. 400 bottles of this vintage were bottle aged for another year before labeling and release for this LJvV launch.

Tasting Note
Citrus, pear, peach and pineapple notes are only some of the aromas. The palate boasts hints of citrus, litchi and vanilla, while the finish is crisp with a well-defined acidity.

A magnificent 2020 blend of Shiraz, Grenache Noir, Mauvedre and Cinsault

The limited edition of 400 bottles were taken from the 2017 Joseph’s Legacy and is a tribute to Perdeberg’s legendary winemaker, Joseph Huskisson, who was a visionary in his time at Perdeberg from 1956-1994. This wine was motivated by passion, tradition and the philosophy behind Dry Land Viticulture and Winemaking. With this vintage, 500L barrels were used to create an elegant, yet complex, styled wine that remains fruit-driven. Only the best barrels from the 2017 vintage were selected for this enticing blend.

Tasting Note
Black pepper, cedar, biltong spice, cherry, plum and vanilla notes are all prominent on the nose. The palate is structured and bold, with layered tones of cloves, spice and coriander. Over time complexity will increase and aromas are expected to become spicier, leathery with hints of cigar smoke.
